Isn't it interesting how just as in writing so as in many aspects of our lives, at the moment that we are ready to quit, shut doors are silently being prepared to open. If we do give up, then perhaps we never nudge those shut doors open far enough to discover what was beyond them.
This is an excellent blog, reminding us all that our opportunity might just be around the corner waiting for us. Typically, all we need is a little more time, patience and effort.
As LuAnn told me when I expressed my frustration recently, "Ah, you're now ready to move up to the next level." and suggested I read this blog entry. The words of the entry were so reminiscent of what I had been feeling, that I felt like nodding my head at each comment.
Thanks for putting into words your experience. It is a good reminder of why we should never give up!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01932154575397138419noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22702204.post-65684067832214328252013-06-13T17:18:10.081-06:002013-06-13T17:18:10.081-06:00Reading your post, LuAnn, reminded me of my own 13...Reading your post, LuAnn, reminded me of my own 137 rejections from agents and publishers for THE SCENT OF A SOUL. In the end, when Travis and I decided it was time to self-publish, I cried. But your comments ring true. It is so important to remember to just keep moving forward. Wonderful things are to come! Look at the success my fellow critique group members Heather B. Moore, Annette Lyon, and Sarah M. Eden are having with their romance anthologies, non-fiction, and novellas. I think there is a place for ALL of us in the world. It's just a matter of finding the right reader base, and feeling proud of the work we are doing, whichever way we publish. But it's also discouraging to think that someone of your experience has gotten all rejections. I went the query/submissions route for a while and then chucked that and have self published 2 on Amazon. I have great reviews and lots of fans. But But as for my experiences so far with authors who have agents and publishers, I'm not impressed. They seem to want Indie authors kept in their place, like they're REAL authors and I'm not. Much of the LDS lit that's out there right now seems to me mediocre at best and blah at worst. They are NOT better than me, they are not better than you. But a lot of them seem to think they are.Jane Mariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15503008712277275035noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22702204.post-86175664851611207732013-05-18T18:34:07.091-06:002013-05-18T18:34:07.091-06:00Cheers to you Lu Ann!!!Cheers to you Lu Ann!!!Dionyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16779534461766158341noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22702204.post-27850470658177248332013-05-17T16:47:09.190-06:002013-05-17T16:47:09.190-06:00Good for you, Lu Ann!Good for you, Lu Ann!Marsha Wardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15389060049107102815noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22702204.post-84062661469412930952013-05-16T13:19:03.894-06:002013-05-16T13:19:03.894-06:00Thanks everyone. I promised to recommend a few books to those of you who posted. Here's the best of what I've read in the past month: Wonder by R. J. Palacio; Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare; Cragbridge Hall: The Inventor's Secret by Chad Morris; Lost Then Found and The Daisy Chain, both by Heather B. Moore. (Hey, Heather, that's YOU!)
